First Place  Category: Nature     Photo: A Place to Call Home

Name:  Camryn Richmond-Lauffer.     Age:  7

Photo of hole in tree from the Upland Forest habitat: This is one of my favorite photos of the day because it makes me think of the warm little houses animals make to keep themselves and their families safe. I wonder how many different types of animals helped make this hole and how many lived in.  It reminds me of a book I read with my mom called One Small Place in a Tree written by Barbara Brenner and illustrated by Tom Leonard.

First Place Category: Day of Service   Photo: Field of Snow

By: Janie Richmond-Lauffer    Age: 9

I felt very calm looking at this field of snow near Starr Library on the National Day of Service. Snow is so peaceful.  If everyone could feel this peace, maybe we would take better care of each other and the planet.  This is why Field of Snow is one of my favorite photos of the day.
